Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Find calm in the chaos – and reconnect with your true self.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a powerful, evidence-based program that combines gentle movement, guided meditation, and awareness practices to help you reduce stress, manage emotional challenges, and improve your overall wellbeing.
Originally developed by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn in the 1970s, this 8-week program has helped thousands of people worldwide with issues such as:
-
Anxiety and depression
-
Chronic pain and fatigue
-
High blood pressure
-
Immune disorders
-
Addiction recovery
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Workplace or carer burnout
What to Expect
MBSR is usually delivered in small group sessions, once a week over eight weeks. Each session runs for around 2–3 hours and includes guided practices, light stretching or yoga, group discussions, and practical tools to help you build a mindfulness routine at home.
You’ll learn to:
-
Tune in to your body with gentle breathing techniques
-
Respond to stress with clarity rather than reacting on autopilot
-
Use movement and mindfulness to ease pain and physical tension
-
Build emotional resilience and improve your focus
-
Reduce racing thoughts and improve your sleep quality
-
Approach your thoughts and feelings with kindness, not judgement
You'll also receive home-based practices to deepen your learning between sessions.
Who Is It For?
MBSR is a gentle, supportive practice that’s suitable for most people – including those living with chronic health issues, emotional distress, or everyday stress. It works beautifully alongside other treatments such as counselling, medical care, or allied health therapies.
If you’ve been feeling stuck in the past, worried about the future, or simply stretched too thin, MBSR offers a way to slow down, breathe, and return to the present moment.
The Benefits
✅ Stress & anxiety reduction
✅ Improved mood and emotional balance
✅ Pain management and physical relaxation
✅ Better sleep and focus
✅ Support for chronic health conditions
✅ Greater self-awareness and personal growth
Some research even shows MBSR can assist with reducing unconscious biases and boosting memory and attention.
Important Considerations
While MBSR is safe and beneficial for most, it may not be suitable for everyone. If you have a history of trauma, addiction, recent suicidal thoughts, or serious mental health concerns, we recommend speaking with your GP or mental health professional first to ensure MBSR is the right fit for you.
